Match Review ACLTwo Group G MD1 | Selangor FC 2-4 Bangkok United FC | Red Giants Defeated On First ACLTwo Outing After Forced To Play With 10 Men

Selangor FC were forced to settle for a 2-4 loss against Bangkok United in the AFC Champions League Two at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya yesterday.

Bangkok United took the lead with two goals through Ilias Alhaft and Muhsen Al-Ghassani before Chrigor managed to close the gap in the 23rd minute after converting a pass from Quentin Cheng. Not long after, Ilias Alhaft made it 3-1. Selangor FC were forced to play with 10 men after Harith Haiqal was sent off before the end of the first half. Izwan Yuslan, the young Red Giant, breathed new life into the game with a powerful strike in the 73rd minute, as soon as he was substituted in. However, the comeback was short-lived as Philipe Maia secured a 4-2 victory for the visitors in the 84th minute.

According to Selangor FC Head Coach, Katsuhito Kinoshi, admitted that small mistakes punished the team, but was happy with the spirit displayed.

“We were clearly punished for the small mistakes in yesterday’s match. There are many things that need to be improved, especially tactically. We opened up space to Bangkok United and they took advantage of the opportunity. I take full responsibility for this. We will learn from this mistake and make it an important lesson for the next match,” he explained

“However, I am proud of the team spirit displayed despite playing with only 10 men from the 40th minute of the match. We managed to recover, still create chances and score two goals. But we need to avoid situations like this. Lack of communication and tactical mistakes need to be fixed. We will continue to fight, change our mentality, and focus for the next match,” he added.

Next, the Red Giants will face Kuching City FC for the 2025/26 Super League competition on Sunday, September 21 at 4:45 pm at the Stadium Negeri, Sarawak.

The Selangor FC management and the team would like to express their gratitude to the 3,497 supporters who attended the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya for the AFC Champions League Two competition even though the match was played on a weekday.
